“The finest of its kind on the East Coast” – Tufts University Sailing Coach
The Wadawanuck Pavilion, located at the head of Stonington Harbor is home to the Wadawanuck Club’s youth sailing program as well as Club functions and family gatherings.
The design was challenging due to the Club’s long wish list: design building in a 130 mph velocity zone that could accommodate both sailing instruction and large social functions, respect the Wadawanuck Club’s more than 100 year old history and make sure the 700 members approve of the design!
Our architecture firm came up with a design that is a dynamic of three intersecting structures which rotate with the curve of the seawall and provide different vistas to the harbor. The Pavilion was constructed with exposed wood trusses, powder-coat steel connections, and exposed concrete columns. 2, 000 square feet of composite decking made of 100% recycled materials wraps around the building.
