The Burren Pub Davis Square, Sommerville, Massachusetts

“One of the 21 Best Pubs in America” – Thrilllist

It was nearly a quarter century ago that Architect Michael McKinley who goes by “Skip” when he is playing Irish flute, designed the Burren Pub for friends and fellow musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello. Tommy literally bet the farm on this venture by investing money from the sale of an Irish farm on the dream of owning a pub in America.

Having played traditional music in pubs in Ireland and America for decades, Architect Michael McKinley had plenty of inspiration for this project. The design, which includes a front room for Irish music sessions and a back room for concerts, transformed a former Dollar Store in Sommerville, MA into what is one of the most successful Irish Pubs in America.
