Sustainable by Design
Grove Cottages, a sustainable community in Vero Beach, Florida was conceived in 2004 when clear cut landscapes and cookie cutter homes invaded Florida. Our firm’s environmentally sensitive low density infill development is a design oriented alternative to what seemed like insanity.
In order to preserve the tropical character of the 3 ½-acre oak hammock site, we collaborated with our engineer to create an innovative site design that would preserve the mature trees. The site plan calls for tree wells to protect trees, elevated walkways, native vegetation and because there is no grass, a minimal/temporary irrigation system.
Flexibility is the predominant design feature of the lakefront 2,400 s.f.-3,750 s.f. “Florida cottages.” Elements such as the front porch, master cottage and Florida room can be added over time to meet a client’s needs and budget.
- Our well-appointed 3,000 s.f. home can easiy transform into a luxurious family compound.
With ICF (insulated concrete form) construction, the residences will substantially exceed Florida Green Building Coalition standards making the project a model of green architecture.
