80's Unwind

LOCATION: Stonington, Connecticut

PROJECT: Interior Renovation

Our firm was hired to help peel away the layers from a design era that’s been dubbed, “best forgotten.” The original 1980's shingle style gambrel had good bones but didn't capitalize on its location overlooking Stonington Harbor and the quaint town of Stonington Borough. The original home had a narrow entry hall and a built-in bookshelf that blocked the views, as well as a dated kitchen and living room fireplace. These things were the first to go during the substantial renovation.

Now when you enter the open plan home you are greeted by stunning harbor views framed by white board walls and built-ins. One of the homeowners, who is an interior designer, selected the furnishings including the teak furniture which was made in Bali. Their art collection is illuminated by minimalist gallery style lighting. We detailed the kitchen and an efficient 8' x 10' bunkroom that sleeps three by incorporating a pull-out trundle bed.
